Cozy Dorm Room Tips for Creating Your Perfect New 'Home'

Comfort is key...

Hey y'all! I want to begin by apologizing for the delay on posting. I am obviously still figuring out a post schedule that works best with my school/social schedule as well. I will make sure to keep y'all updated of course. Anywayyy...I hope everyones weekend was relaxing and enjoyable.

This post is all about my tips and tricks to getting the most comfort out of a cramped dorm room. Just a little background info...Dayton Freshman live in a standard, community-style residential hall. Meaning I got the works, the communal bathrooms, the small rooms...the whole nine, and I wouldn't trade it for the world (ehh maybe not but whatever). I want to preface that because every dorm is different, these are just the products that I've found work best for me and the atmosphere I like.

I want this post to be more anchored to my fave products to enhance comfort, therefore the nitty-gritty details about dorm life won't be included in this post (if thats what you are looking for I'll be posting a dorm Q & A soon!).

I am putting all the links/pictures to these products throughout this post so y'all can find them easily...enjoy!

1. The photo wall

The photos shown on my wall are all from Red Bubble, I am obsessed with this company y'all. They allow artists from around the globe to create artwork/designs and sell them on a platform that can make prints, tapestries, pillows, you name it. I ordered these small photographic prints and put them on the wall behind my bed. I thought it made the space seem a little more my style and covered up the cold concrete wall. Also...huge hack is to use Gorilla Tape to adhere the pictures if you find the walls are too slick to stick anything on them :)

2. The tapestry

The tapestry I have hanging right now is also from Red Bubble. I couldn't find the one I have hanging but you can find thousands more designs here. Once again I feel that a tapestry closes in the space nicely by covering up the walls. Its important to include more cool tones in your room to make the space look as big as possible with still keeping in mind that you want it to be cozy and by finding a cute tapestry you are doing just that.

3. The blanket

One of my favorite parts of the room is my ice cream blanket from TJ.Maxx. This was honestly an impulse buy on my mom and I's part but it ended up being one of my favorite things in the space. Its important to find a comfy blanket that you can cuddle up with at night on the cold days in order to enhance a more comfortable vibe.

4. The bed sheets

Bed sheets was a big thing for me when buying dorm stuff. The duvet I have is from Urban Outfitters and can be found here, its seriously the coziest thing in the room...highly recommend. The jersey bed sheets are from Target and can be found here. Ohio winters aren't kind so I knew it would be a staple to have super soft sheets and jersey is the perfect material.

5. The throw pillows

Once again giving a shout-out to Red Bubble...my pillows can be found here (marble and 'E'). You don't really need too much stuff on your bed or else it'll end up looking too cluttered but I still recommend getting a couple inserts and cases just to add some style to the room. Also I'll add the link to the bedrest that I got from Target which is nice to have when doing homework on your bed.

6. The string lights

This is where things got a little creative not gonna lie. I had purchased some frosted string lights from Target and decided to string them up with some of my favorite pictures and some clothes pins. I hung them over top of my desk which adds such a warm glow to the space and makes it feel so much more cozy.

7. The pictures

This tip goes as follows but I cannot recommend it enough to print some 5x7's for your dorm space. I filled a photo album with all my favorite pictures and rotate the ones that I display. This is such an easy and cheap way to make the most of your new home.

8. The oil diffuser

People go on and on about oil diffusers but I am telling you they are well worth the hype. The one I have can be found here. There are so many different oils you can put in it in order to give your space a little extra something. To learn about some of the different benefits associated with different oils look here

Happy decorating!
